We need your help

We want to thank you for being a part of SeaAffinity, and helping to support us. Without your interest and involvement, we would not have been able to do all that we have done. This season has been a struggle for us. COVID-19 has been an area of concerns for most everyone. Restrictions meant not only a pause in our outreach programs, but also a pause in our income producing programs that fund our outreach programs. These programs, such as lessons and charters, produce income
that pays our insurance, maintenance costs, rent, and utilities. Through gifts and grants, we were able to meet those obligations and stay afloat to provide our programs when things began to open.

Our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) outreach programs will continue throughout the winter and early spring. Through our partnerships with community organizations, we are able to provide an after-school, hands-on education opportunity to the youth of Baltimore. We provide these programs at no cost to the organization or the students. We can only do this with the support of our volunteers and donors. We need your help! Please consider a year-end, tax deductible gift to SeaAffinity, Inc.

We provided our hands-on STEM education homeschooled students as well as our outreach partners. Our Sailing into STEM program makes learning concepts such as Pythagorean’s theorem and Archimedes’ principle (displacement/density) fun and engaging. Many of our outreach participants come from schools where less than 40% of the students are testing at grade level for science, math and reading. These experiences help students expand their possibilities and potential both in school and life. We have found that many kids in the school system are lacking basic skills such as using scissors! We have added even more hands-on projects to try to help build these skills.

Marine BiologyWe added a marine biology module which explores the marine life in the harbor including plankton, barnacles, crabs, and six species of fish. We also educate the students on our impact on the marine environment through water testing and marine debris collection.

We were able to provide life-changing sailing experiences through our free Experience Sailing program. We were able to focus on a variety of life skills such as self-awareness/self-confidence, communication, problem solving/critical thinking, teamwork/respect, and even anxiety control.

We provided sailing and boating education both on our boats as well as privately owned boats. Our small class size and in many cases, private instruction, allowed us to focus on the skills the students wanted as well as the skills needed to be safe and confident on the water. The incoming funds from these paid programs help to support us.

In 2019, we accepted the donation of the 20′ powerboat that we have been able to use for hands-on training. This could not have been accomplished without the support of our community partners, foundation, corporate and individual donors and you! We feel that we
are only scratching the surface of the need in our community. We believe your investment in us should go directly toward providing the best experience at the lowest possible cost. Because of this, we strive to keep our overhead low by avoiding costly facilities and salaries.

testimonialWe have also provided sailing therapy as part of an addiction recovery program.  Our partnering local agencies bring five recovering addicts along with their recovery coach.  The participants work together to sail the boat, taking turns at various positions on the boat from steering to trimming sails, and even keeping a lookout.  The coaches take the experiences to use as discussion points to start conversations within their group and private therapy sessions.
